How to Make Bacteriostatic Water? – An Easy Guide

You can find bacteriostatic water in the local drugstore or order it online. But did you know you can also make it?

If you are wondering why you would go through the trouble, here are several reasons:

  • You will know exactly which ingredients were put in the mix
  • It is possible to write down the exact day of making it, so you don’t have to worry about its expiration date and potency
  • You take care of it from day one, which means there is no way the water could have been compromised
  • Saving money might be an option when compared to buying bacteriostatic water

You can also add the fact that it is fairly easy to make bacteriostatic water yourself. It is, however, crucial to do all the steps right. That is why we prepared a detailed guide on how to make bacteriostatic water for injections at home!

Ingredients – What You Need to Make Bacteriostatic Water

Before you can start the project, you should prepare the items to use. The list of ingredients is not long, but it is important to choose carefully. Here is the checklist of components you will need:

  • Water
  • Benzyl alcohol
  • Syringe
  • Alcohol pads
  • Storage vial

Water

It is best if you always go with sterile water. You can buy it in the local pharmacy, or boil tap water in a pot. The experts recommend boiling it for at least 20 minutes to kill the majority of bacteria that could cause infection. Please note that this is not medical-grade sterile water, which means purchasing it remains the best option.

Avoid using tap water even if you are certain in its quality. Those living in older buildings will probably have old pipes, so your water might contain lead and other harmful compounds. But even if your pipes are lead-free and you have a report of water quality, you can never be completely sure. You don’t want to risk infecting yourself with bacteriostatic water while injecting the compound you are using. That is why sterile water is a much safer way to go.

Benzyl Alcohol

Benzyl alcohol is an extremely pure variant of alcohol with 99% or better purity. [1] Unlike rubbing alcohol, this solution is thick and serves to prevent bacterial growth in bacteriostatic water. It is crucial to check the packaging when purchasing. You want to ensure that there has been no damage, and benzyl alcohol is in an optimal state.

You can also check the label for purity and other information. Make sure to store benzyl alcohol properly to maintain its potency.

Syringe

The experts recommend using an insulin syringe since it enables a simple drawing of benzyl alcohol. The crucial thing is that you use a new syringe each time you make bacteriostatic water from scratch. You also can’t reuse syringes for administering more than a single injection.  Make sure the syringe is protected and uncontaminated before you start using it.

Alcohol pads

These serve to clean the tops of your storage and benzyl alcohol vials. They are essential to ensure all components remain free of contaminants and crucial to keep your bacteriostatic water clean.

A Storage Vial

You will need a vial or another type of container for storing bacteriostatic water. It is needless to say that the vial should be completely clean, so don’t use one where you kept a different solution.

How to Make Bacteriostatic Water Step by Step

Once you have all the ingredients ready, these are the steps you should follow:

  1. First, grab some alcohol pads and use them to disinfect the vial that contains benzyl alcohol. You want to disinfect the top to ensure there are no bacteria. Next, proceed to disinfect the top of the storage vial where you plan to hold bacteriostatic water. Use alcohol pads and make sure to be thorough.
  2. Now, take the syringe because it is time to do some measuring. Consider the quantity of bacteriostatic water you are making and calculate how much benzyl alcohol you need. A single unit you pull out with the syringe is 0.01ml. The rule to follow is that you need nine units per every 10 milliliters of water. For example, if you are making 20 milliliters of bacteriostatic water, you will need 18 units of benzyl alcohol.
  3. Use the syringe to draw the benzyl alcohol from its vial. Transfer it to the storage container. Repeat the process until you have enough units in the storage vial. Make sure to keep accurate track of how many units you already added.
  4. Add the water that needs to be sterile to the storage vial. Make sure that you measure a proportionate quantity of water when compared to the benzyl alcohol you previously transferred into the vial.

Is There a Simpler Alternative to Using Injections and Bacteriostatic Water?

If you take a look at the above process, it is not too complicated. However, you need to be careful and invest some time and effort. Even if you purchase bacteriostatic water instead of making it, you still need to inject yourself with the desired compound.

Depending on your preferred product, you might have alternatives available. If you are using peptides to promote injury recovery and muscle growth, how about trying transdermal skin patches? [2]

AgeForce developed peptide skin patches with a gradual release. They ensure a steady flow of peptides into your bloodstream for optimal absorption.

Apart from delivering equal or better results as injections, skin patches are far simpler to use. For starters, you don’t need to know how to make bacteriostatic water. Even more important, you don’t have to inject yourself. Injections can be painful, and nobody feels pleasant when administering them to themselves.

AgeForce has skin patches available for peptides like MK-677, BPC=157, and TB-500. [3] The applying of these unique formulas takes only a couple of seconds. All you need to do is to remove the protective layer and apply the patch to your skin. The entire process is simple and pain-free!
