Dhea Dehydroepiandrosterone

DHEA Dehydroepiandrosterone: Uses, Benefits And Side Effects

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a naturally occurring hormone that is produced by the adrenal glands, in the gonads and the human brain. It can either function for its purposes or be converted to testosterone or estrogens according to the needs of the human body. In most people, production peaks in the mid-20s before dropping off after they reach 30. This led to the creation of the nickname the 'fountain of youth hormone' in some quarters. Due to its age-specific production, it has been linked to aging and is often seen as an age-limiting hormone. Like almost every other hormone, there is an artificially derived supplement for it, called DHEA Supplement. This supplement is derived from Wild Yam and Soy. However, the body cannot directly produce DHEA from ingesting these foods in excess. Consuming products rich in Wild Yam and Soy that are often touted as natural forms of the hormone is ineffective in raising the production levels in the body. People mostly take this supplement with the hope that it gives them a different number of health benefits.

Uses and Benefits

Dhea Dehydroepiandrosterone supplement is used for many health reasons ranging from preventive, correctional or curative reasons. Some of these claims are outright unsubstantiated or are at most backed up by limited data as there is almost universally foolproof evidence that the supplement guarantees some of these outcomes. Nonetheless, these are some of the common uses and benefits of the supplement:

Fighting the effects of aging by slowing natural changes that precede aging. Improving sex drive. Building up bone and muscle strength. Building up and strengthening the adrenal glands and the immune system. Easing mild depression by improving mood and memory. Treating osteoporosis, vaginal atrophy, and erectile dysfunction. Arresting weight loss Decreasing symptoms of menopause and rheumatoid arthritis. Treatment of Schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, Crohn's disease, etc.

However, as regards limiting aging in people, what the supplement does more for older adults is the increment in the hydration and thickness levels of the top layer skin. This is noticeable in women who have reached the menopausal stage as their skin looks better when they take the supplement. Research has shown that the supplement does not necessarily improve the quality of life or bone and muscle strength in the aging or aged.
